Lava Diva’s Debut Album

Lava Diva’s debut album, self-released in 1998, featuring 12 songs including Breathe, Backyard BBQ, Rancid, and A Doll’s House. Produced by Patrick Lydon this album features contributions from many Los Angeles based musical talents. Violinist, Jessy Greene, lends strings to “Mykel and Carli”, Steve Kaye plays cello on “Vertigo”, and Buck Sanders adds guitar on “The Passage" and “Heroine.”

Liane Bonin from the Los Angeles Reader says, “This trim three-piece plants one foot firmly in the rawest of rock material, while dipping the other into darker, spookier, and more experimental territory.”

Andrea Enthal from the Alternative Press says, “Lava Diva are an arty band with sweet and sour roots…[they rely] on the arty contrasts of hard/soft and the tension of the transitions between the two, to wring its energy out of the band’s soul and into your ears.”

Creaks and Dogs

Lava Diva’s acoustic album, “Creaks and Dogs,” released in 2000, feature another 12 songs including Mine, In Two, The Dance, and reworked acoustic versions of A Doll’s House and Lights Out. Mixed and recorded by John Wells, this album features contributions from additional Los Angeles based musical talents. Brad Gordon adds accordion, Emmellda Beech and Robbie McDonald add vocals, and Tanya Hayden adds cello. The Passage is co-written with Buck Sanders.

Cake from Flipside Magazine says, “Lava Diva have a freshness in their sound which most bands can never accomplish. The method to their madness is their jazzy minimalist approach.”

Gena Nason from BAM Magazine says, “It’s hard to believe that some people actually need drugs to alter their state of mind. After all, in a live environment, Lava Diva can throw almost anyone into a different brain wave pattern following just a few songs.”
